Letterpress Art

I am supremely happy and proud to share with you the first six of the 2015 byHugo.com Edition prints.

Albert Einstein, as sketched byHugo and turned into a letterpress art print byHugo.

“Albert”, Letterpress print fresh off the press.

This picture does little justice to the snow white pristine fluffy surface of the heavy 100% cotton paper, and the deep impression into the paper held by the rich black ink. The image is 5″ by 5″ printedon a 10″ by 12″ piece of 300gms weight, 100% archival cotton paper.  “Albert” belongs to a series of portraits that I call “Influences”, he is one of the first people I could identify, and all my life – the more I learned about him – the more I continue to be impressed. He is also one of the first serious portraits I tried.

This print is available in a clear cellophane envelope with archival backing, ready to be framed for $78.00.

The image is 5″ by 5″ printedon a 10″ by 12″ piece of 300gms weight, 100% archival cotton paper.  “Ann Caught in a Squall” comes from a pencil sketch that I started while waiting for my wife outside the Ann of Green Gables tourist trap, during a holiday that involved a trip to PEI.

The image is 5″ by 5″ printed on a 10″ by 12″ piece of 300gms weight, 100% archival cotton paper.  “Gracious Rapture” is a response to a series of encounters I had with swans. It also reminds me of an incident long ago when one of my friends got beat up by a swan.

Every year I take in the Calgary Stampede parade, and take away lots of reference material for sketching. This fellow I have seen several years in a row, but I still like my first sketch best.

I used to have this dream about at the end of my life going for a walk, and being eaten by one. Why Polar Bob? I don’t really know, he seemed reasonably personable.

They are ungainly flyers, and annoying when they land on your face or neck, but none of the people I was with reported getting bitten by them.
